Optional Gear Pumps for precise controls of layer thickness
The
extruders can be equipped with Gear Pumps placed in between
the extruder and adaptor pipe to the die. These pumps will
ensure a very precise and constant flow at high pressure to
the die, enabling higher accuracy of each layer. The pump is
driven by a geared AC motor and with programmable inverter
for speed control. It has a capacity, which is sufficient to
follow the output of the screw extruder. The gear pump is a
“volumetric Feeding system” and thus you need to calculate
the resin flow in grams per minute for each RPM of the gear
pump taking into account the density of the resin. It is
thus more difficult to set up than our Hopper weighing
system (please see preceding chapter) which actually have at
least same precision as with gear pumps.
The gear
pump is supplied together with a Pressure and Melt temp
sensor and closed loop system to ensure constant feed of the
melt to the gear pump. The gear pump controls include
digital speed control of the pump as well as a pressure
control instrument and a digital melt temperature indicator.
The instruments are mounted on the central control panel.
Additionally a pressure transducer can be mounted on the
adapter to the die inlet to measure the die pressure.
With this
addition, you can measure the pressure at the die which can
be useful to make sure you do not get an over pressure in
the die due blockage, wrong temperatures etc. The transducer
will also stop the extruder in the event that the pressure
reaches the maximum pressure the die can handle.
